Capturing the Action: How I Photographed the USBC Masters Bowling Tournament with the Latest Techniques at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Michigan

As a photographer granted access to the prestigious USBC Masters tournament held at Thunderbowl Lanes, I knew I needed to focus on capturing the emotions of the bowlers, including their expressions of triumph or defeat, as well as high-fives and other celebratory gestures. Along with the action on the lanes, I captured the atmosphere of the tournament by taking photos of the fans, scoreboard, and ambiance of Thunderbowl Lanes. Overall, with the right gear, lighting, and techniques, I was able to capture some amazing images of the world's best bowlers in action and hope these tips can help you capture equally amazing photos at your next sporting event.

Happy 2023 to everyone! Yes, I may be a week late, but sometimes that is just how things go. This past week I kicked the year off with a Red Wings game and Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, MI. As a sports photographer, you get to see all different kids of sports. Hockey is one of the fastest moving games. I always enjoy the challenge it brings! NCAA Cross Country: DIII Championship

Over the years, I have had the great opportunity to photograph a wide variety of things. , When something new comes my way it always adds a bit more excitement to the challenge. This Fall I had the opportunity to photograph Cross Country for the first time, and I was able do it twice!

The first opportunity was a nice warm day in September. The University of Michigan was hosting the Big Ten Preview. I was blessed to be able to work again with the great staff and teams from Rutgers.

The next opportunity brought a whole new set of challenges, SNOW! The wind chill was below 10 degrees Fahrenheit and there was a few inches of snow. The atmosphere there felt more like a cross country skiing event, and definitely not running. Needless to say, I welcomed the challenge to photograph the NCAA DIII championship at Michigan State University for NCAA Photos. It was great to be able to work with them again and capture this event and the Olivet Comets were excellent hosts! Enjoy!

NFL: Cleveland Browns at Buffalo Bills

Recently, The Buffalo Bills had to move their home game against the Cleveland Browns. The reason for the move, a snow storm that impacted Buffalo. The game was move to Ford Field in Detroit. I was grateful for the opportunity to be able to photograph the game.

2022 NCAA Division I Women’s Water Polo Championship

Last month I was able to work with NCAA Photos once again to capture the NCAA Division I Women’s Water Polo Championship at Canham Natatorium on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor. Previously, I had worked with the NCAA to photograph the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament First & Second Rounds at U of M. It was good to be back on campus and working with the NCAA. It was a unique challenge as water polo is not a frequent sport here in Michigan. Being that I was working for the NCAA, it requires capturing the action, but also the atmosphere before and after. This would include things like the team arrivals and celebration afterwards. Without further ado, here are some of the images from the day. Hope you enjoy the images. Enjoy!

Recently, I was able to cover the NCAA women’s basketball tournament. The University of Michigan hosted the first and second rounds in Ann Arbor. It was a great opportunity to shoot for the NCAA Photos. I always enjoy shooting basketball, especially when it is in March.

The NFL pre-season has come to a close, but I still wanted to share some images from when the Detroit Lions hosted the Buffalo Bills at Ford Field in Detroit. When photographing football, or any sport, I always look to capture the action but also some images that show you the atmosphere.
