On Father’s Day weekend I covered 912 miles in 67 hours on only 10 hours of sleep. If I said I was tired, that would be an understatement! I started off on Friday by heading to Brooklyn, MI, which is the home of the Michigan International Speedway.  There I would be covering the Quicken Loans 400 Practice for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. After spending the day there I headed to Lansing where I was going to compete in Dirty Feat, an adventure race held in the capital, on Saturday. The race covered some 50 miles on bike, foot, and canoe. After eight hours of non-stop exercise I was on my way home for a few hours before heading back to MIS. In order to beat all the traffic I set my alarm for 4:30am and was off to the track. Once there I covered some pre-race events and waited for the race to start since there was a rain delay. Once the race was over and I had finished sending pictures to my editors, I was on my way home for some much needed rest. Here are some pictures from my adventures. You can see all the images here and here.

A few weekends ago I was able to photograph something totally new to me. I was able to photograph my first IndyCar race, not only that but it was the first car race I had ever photographed. I had never photographed cars before, even though I am from the Motor City, and it was definitely different compared to anything else I have photographed. The loud roar of the engines and the smell of the fuel in the air added to the atmosphere. I spent twelve hours at the track, but I had a blast and the time flew by.  You can view all the photos here.

This past weekend I photographed a doubleheader as Oakland Community College hosted Macomb Community College. Macomb CC came from behind to win the first game in extra innings before again winning the second game. Here are a few pictures from the day.

Is Sports Shooter really worth it? Yes it is! A few months ago I joined Sports Shooters, I wasn’t sure what to expect from it but I decided to go for it and pay the $25.00 annual fee. Since that time it has been a great help. I can look up stadiums where I have never shot at and it will tell me where the media entrance is as well as other useful information. I can look up contacts for teams or agencies. I can ask questions on the message board, I can even sell my used gear. I can post a portfolio. However, it can be much more. It can be a place where you reach new clients. This recently happened to me when I was contacted by Lacrosse Magazine who found me through Sports Shooter. Fortunately, I had the evening free and was able to shoot for them. The $25.00 that I spent has brought me a lot of useful knowledge through the knowledge that is shared on the site as well as brought me clients, all of which is very useful.

Here are a few pictures from the game. Be sure to check out more right here.

I recently was able to photograph the Detroit Pistons as they hosted the Chicago Bulls. It was a very exciting game and with just second left Derrick Rose made a three pointer over Greg Monroe to send the game into overtime. In overtime the Bulls came out on top 100-94. Here are a few images and be sure to check out the rest right here.

The winter that we had, or lack there of, was very mild compared to most winters here in Michigan. When we had record breaking temps back in March I was able to get my first round of golf under my belt for the year. Today, I was able to photograph my first golf tournament of the year, which was the Oakland Community College Invitational. Being the athletic photographer at Oakland CC I have photographed this tournament the previous two years and those two years consisted of golf, rain, snow, and some more rain. Not the most enjoyable weather. However, today was awesome! Sun, more sun, and even more sun made for a really enjoyable time and some nice light. Here are some pictures. They are all black and white but were shot in color and converted. Also, be sure to see who got a little hungry during the tournament. Hope you enjoy!

Last weekend I was blessed to be able to spend a few days in Holland, MI. Hope College was hosting the NCAA women’s division III Final Four basketball tournament. The weather that weekend was unbelievable! I was fortunate enough to have some free time to explore downtown Holland, which seemed to be a pretty cool town and hopefully I can go back one day to explore more.

Alright, down to the business now. The reason I was there was because once again, I was able to photograph the tournament for Amherst College.  The Lord Jeffs were looking to defend their title from last year’s Final Four and they were also going for a perfect record with no losses in the 2011/2012 season and post season. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so. In the semi-final round they lost a very close game to George Fox, and in the consolation game they lost again to St Thomas (MN).  The consolation game was a very emotional game for the seniors of the team being that it was their last game.  Here are some photos…

March is an awesome time of year. We get to bump our clocks ahead an hour which means there is more sunlight in the evening, and that is something I love. It also means that we get an extra hour of sleep in the fall. I know it is tough now because we lose an hour, but just think of that hour you will get in the fall!

March also brings the greatest basketball there is.  March Madness is just plain awesome! However, that means basketball is wrapping up and there won’t be much more basketball to shoot. This is something that I don’t like. For me, basketball is one of my favorite sports to photograph. I am not sure why though. Maybe it is because I played for three years in high school or maybe it is because I have photographed more basketball than any other sport. Whatever the reason is, I was blessed to be able to shoot three games in a little over twenty-four hours this past weekend. I photographed my last Oakland Community College basketball game for the year, which unfortunately was their last game also since they did not move on to nationals. The other two games were the Pistons’ games as they hosted Toronto and Atlanta .

Last week I was blessed with being able to shoot six basketball games in 7 days. Below are a few images from the games. I was also able to make ESPN’s NBA photos of the week with the pictures right after the jump. Be sure to check more images from the games here, here, and here.

The last game the Red Wings lost at their home rink, the Joe Louis Arena,  was just days after Halloween on November 3rd, 2011.  Since that time they have been able to win all of their 20 home games.  Tomorrow they will be going for an all new record of winning 21 home games in a row.  Here are a few images from some of the victories since November 3rd.
