March is an awesome time of year. We get to bump our clocks ahead an hour which means there is more sunlight in the evening, and that is something I love. It also means that we get an extra hour of sleep in the fall. I know it is tough now because we lose an hour, but just think of that hour you will get in the fall!

March also brings the greatest basketball there is.  March Madness is just plain awesome! However, that means basketball is wrapping up and there won’t be much more basketball to shoot. This is something that I don’t like. For me, basketball is one of my favorite sports to photograph. I am not sure why though. Maybe it is because I played for three years in high school or maybe it is because I have photographed more basketball than any other sport. Whatever the reason is, I was blessed to be able to shoot three games in a little over twenty-four hours this past weekend. I photographed my last Oakland Community College basketball game for the year, which unfortunately was their last game also since they did not move on to nationals. The other two games were the Pistons’ games as they hosted Toronto and Atlanta .

When it comes to basketball I try to get a few type of shots at each game.  I usually like to get some kind of action with the camera angle very low looking up.  Most times I set the camera on the floor to get the look I want.  I also like to get a shot of someone or a few players going for a loose ball, or maybe a player jumping out of bounds. Now, this might not happen every game or it might not happen facing you, but be ready for it when it does happen. Another shot I try to get is a tight horizontal action shot. The reason I do that is because I feel like most basketball pictures are taken vertically.  Maybe it is just me, but that is one of my goals.  I also try to get something unique, something that is not so much action but more of an artful shot.  Here are some examples from the three games that I did this past weekend.
