The last two days here in southeast Michigan have been full of snow and arctic temperatures. With no school or work due to road conditions, I have been hanging out around the house. Even with all the crazy weather, there has been a vast amount of birds hanging out in my backyard. I decided to try my luck and see if one of these guys would let me get close enough. As a photographer granted access to the prestigious USBC Masters tournament held at Thunderbowl Lanes, I knew I needed to focus on capturing the emotions of the bowlers, including their expressions of triumph or defeat, as well as high-fives and other celebratory gestures. Along with the action on the lanes, I captured the atmosphere of the tournament by taking photos of the fans, scoreboard, and ambiance of Thunderbowl Lanes. Overall, with the right gear, lighting, and techniques, I was able to capture some amazing images of the world’s best bowlers in action and hope these tips can help you capture equally amazing photos at your next sporting event.
