]]>Last week I had the opportunity to photograph the Oakland Community College Invitational at Pontiac Country Club. It was a wet, cold, windy day but the golfers braved the conditions. Here are a few pictures from the day. Enjoy!
What is golf without a few “birdies”?

]]>After what seemed like a never ending winter, this week has turned out to be a very nice one. In the past week I have been able to get out and work in this great weather. I have enjoyed being able to do so! Recently I was able to photograph the Oakland Community College Invitational at Pontiac Country Club. The day was gorgeous and it was great to be back on the links. Enjoy!
While out on the course I saw a few “birdies”. Be sure to click on the pictures to see more.

]]>As the athletic photographer at Oakland Community College my job entails a wide variety of photo coverage. I find myself shooting game action, banquets and portraits. Most recently I photographed the softball and golf team portraits for their upcoming seasons.
Below is the setup I had. I was using a Nikon SB-26 with an umbrella and a Nikon SB-600 to the left of the subjects. I trigger my speedlights with the Pocket Wizards Plus II’s.

]]>This past weekend I was blessed to be able to travel to Dublin, Ohio. My editor sent me down to the Muirfield Village Golf Club to cover the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide. I was happy to go! Golf is something that I really enjoying covering. I like that it is outdoors and there are many ways to be creative with your photographs.
I only covered the third and final rounds, so I arrived early Saturday morning so that I could figure out the layout of the course and familiarize myself with everything. My first assignment on Saturday was to follow Tiger Woods for a few holes.
I followed him for four holes before I headed back to the media room to transmit. After transmitting and grabbing something to eat, I headed back out onto the course to meet up with the leaders. At this point in the tournament there were a handful of golfers that were all doing pretty well. My colleague and I texted each other to communicate on who we each were covering. This allowed us to get the best coverage possible.
On Sunday, the final round, I arrived not quite as early. I went out to the practice green where Tiger Woods and Matt Kuchar, who was the leader, were warming up. I then headed over to the first tee to shoot the leaders as they teed off. Once they all teed off, I went back to the media room to transmit some photos. I then headed back out to catch up with the leaders. I kept up with them until the ninth hole before transmitting again. Once I was done, I caught up with Scott Stallings who had made a run earlier in the day with seven birdies. After getting some shots of Stallings, I met up with the leaders once again to follow them the rest of the way through. Here are some shots of the final round.

]]>I very much enjoy photographing golf since there is so much to work with and I enjoy being able to work outdoors. I always look forward to covering a golf tournament for Oakland Community College since it is usually the only golf I get to photograph throughout the year. This year I covered the Mott Community College Invitational held at Flint Elks Country Club in Grand Blanc, MI. For most of the day it was nothing but rain, however, for the first few holes it was just a normal nice cloudy day in Michigan. Here are a few photos. Enjoy!

]]>Where do I even begin? I have been blessed so much this year! I have been blessed with my family and with the friendships that have grown, as well as the new friendships I have made. I have been able to further my education and have been able to do a job I love.
This past year I was fortunate to be able to travel to new places and be able to photograph them. I was able to meet new people and photograph new things. I photographed my first World Series and was grateful to be able to work with new clients as well as to continue and grow my relationship with past clients.
As the year comes to an end I can only hope that 2013 will be as good as 2012, and in these last few days of 2012 I would like to share some of my photos from this past year. Hope you enjoy the pictures and have a Happy New Year!

]]>Photographing the US Senior Open at Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Lake Orion, Michigan took me back to the days of the Buick Open that was held at Warwick Hills in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
Growing up in Grand Blanc as a kid was exciting for me when the Buick Open would come into town. You could drive by the golf course and see all the people watching, and maybe even be able to see a PGA player. Then there was always watching it live on TV, knowing it was happening just a few minutes away. It was also exciting watching the blimp from our backyard while playing golf with wiffle balls in the yard. One fonder memory though, is going to the Family Days. They weren’t that special, but just being there during the practice round and being able to experience all the hype in person was pretty cool. It was special because we got to ride a bus, and a homeschooler doesn’t get to ride one very often. It was a good time when the Buick Open came into town.
When I first heard that the US Senior Open was coming to Lake Orion I was very excited and immediately began to think of possible clients. However, I was lucky enough to have my editor contact me asking me if I wanted to cover it. I obliviously said yes and counted down the days until it started since I love photographing golf.
While I was waiting for golfers to hit their shots I would sometime photograph the many dragon flies that were all around the course. Here are a few pictures of them.

]]>The winter that we had, or lack there of, was very mild compared to most winters here in Michigan. When we had record breaking temps back in March I was able to get my first round of golf under my belt for the year. Today, I was able to photograph my first golf tournament of the year, which was the Oakland Community College Invitational. Being the athletic photographer at Oakland CC I have photographed this tournament the previous two years and those two years consisted of golf, rain, snow, and some more rain. Not the most enjoyable weather. However, today was awesome! Sun, more sun, and even more sun made for a really enjoyable time and some nice light. Here are some pictures. They are all black and white but were shot in color and converted. Also, be sure to see who got a little hungry during the tournament. Hope you enjoy!

]]>Last week I headed over to Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI. GVSU was the host of the 2011 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship. I had the opportunity to cover one day of the tournament for Grand Canyon University. GCU’s Tiffany Hewetson from Brighton, England was in the individual tournament. While shooting for GCU, I was approached by Upper Iowa University. So, in the end I had two schools. Here are a few photos from the day.

]]>Golf is one of the sports that I enjoy photographing the most even if it is raining the whole time and the temperature is only in the low 40’s. This was the case for the Oakland CC Invitational at Pontiac Country Club. You have to love Michigan weather!
