Last month I was able to work with a professional bowler from Sweden, Jesper Svensson. Jesper was in Allen Park (outside of Detroit) for the PBA’s (Professional Bowling Association) taping of the Fall Swing Tour which is currently airing on CBS Sports. The magazinze cover shoot was for the Bowlers Journal International. It was a great day working with Jesper, the crew at the Bowlers Journal International and the PBA.  Enjoy!

Last week I was able to photograph all the team portraits and individual portraits for the Oakland Community College Raiders men’s and women’s basketball team. As the athletic photographer at Oakland Community College my job entails a wide variety of photo coverage.  I find myself shooting game action, banquets and portraits.  Most recently I photographed the softball and golf team portraits for their upcoming seasons.

Below is the setup I had. I was using a Nikon SB-26 with an umbrella and a Nikon SB-600 to the left of the subjects.  I trigger my speedlights with the Pocket Wizards Plus II’s.

Last week I was blessed to be able to work with Oakland Community College and their athletic staff as we worked to capture portraits of the athletes. The athletes were awesome to work with! They were eager and excited to take the pictures! Here are a few from the shoot.

The volleyball team managed to get all fourteen of themselves onto the backdrop!

After finishing my last class for the day I was blessed to be able to head over to the Detroit Pistons practice facilities in Auburn Hills.  There I took portraits of the team and was also able to document media day.  The players were all super easy to work with and it was definitely a good time.  Be sure to check out the rest of the images right here.

When I was not shooting portraits I spent some time photographing the players and coach as they went around to various other setups.

For a long time I have been wanting to shoot some portraits of athletes so that I could add athletic portraits to my portfolio. I was not hired to take this. The reason why I did this is because you have to make your portfolio. We all need to get out there and just shoot! You may have to have a friend model for you, or take a day off of work, but just get out there and shoot what you love to shoot! Then someone will find you (or maybe you will have to find them), but remember it takes work to get where you want to be.

Real quick, I want to thank those who modeled for me. Without you guys I wouldn’t have had these pictures to add to my portfolio.

I was asked to photograph the individual portraits for the Oakland CC’s softball team and also to take the team picture. To save me a trip we scheduled the shoot before a basketball game I was going to photograph for Oakland CC. Above is a team picture where we were having some fun, and below is just an individual portrait.
