Photographing the US Senior Open at Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Lake Orion, Michigan took me back to the days of the Buick Open that was held at Warwick Hills in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
Growing up in Grand Blanc as a kid was exciting for me when the Buick Open would come into town. You could drive by the golf course and see all the people watching, and maybe even be able to see a PGA player. Then there was always watching it live on TV, knowing it was happening just a few minutes away. It was also exciting watching the blimp from our backyard while playing golf with wiffle balls in the yard. One fonder memory though, is going to the Family Days. They weren’t that special, but just being there during the practice round and being able to experience all the hype in person was pretty cool. It was special because we got to ride a bus, and a homeschooler doesn’t get to ride one very often. It was a good time when the Buick Open came into town.
When I first heard that the US Senior Open was coming to Lake Orion I was very excited and immediately began to think of possible clients. However, I was lucky enough to have my editor contact me asking me if I wanted to cover it. I obliviously said yes and counted down the days until it started since I love photographing golf.
While I was waiting for golfers to hit their shots I would sometime photograph the many dragon flies that were all around the course. Here are a few pictures of them.
