Earlier this week I was blessed to be able to photograph the Detroit Pistons as they hosted the Golden State Warriors at The Palace of Auburn Hills. I always look forward to photographing basketball and it is one of my favorite sports to photograph. It is always a nice way to break away from school and have a good time working. As a photographer granted access to the prestigious USBC Masters tournament held at Thunderbowl Lanes, I knew I needed to focus on capturing the emotions of the bowlers, including their expressions of triumph or defeat, as well as high-fives and other celebratory gestures. Along with the action on the lanes, I captured the atmosphere of the tournament by taking photos of the fans, scoreboard, and ambiance of Thunderbowl Lanes. Overall, with the right gear, lighting, and techniques, I was able to capture some amazing images of the world’s best bowlers in action and hope these tips can help you capture equally amazing photos at your next sporting event.
