Amherst College’s 1st National Title

Note: Photos are not for sale.

This past  weekend I had the awesome opportunity to photograph the Women’s Division III Final Four held at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, IL.  I was covering the event for Amherst College and also for a newspaper in Massachusetts.

Entering the Final Four, Amherst had a record of 30-1 and had never played for a national title before.  Their first game was the semifinal game where they took on Christopher Newport University from Virginia. Amherst defeated CNU 69-59 and advanced to their first national title game in school history.  In the final game Amherst was to face Washington University (MO).  Washington was about an hour or two away from their own campus.  Since they were so close to their own campus they had many fans there to cheer them on, making it a little more difficult for Amherst to take the national title.

The head coach for Amherst College, GP Gromacki (below),  is the second most winningest current coach in Division I, II, and III with a winning percentage of .856.  He is right behind Geno Auriemma of UConn who has a winning percentage of  .862.

Here are a few publications that some of the photos I took appeared in.
